As chief customer officer for Twitter, Sarah Personette understands the benefit of truly understanding your customer – something that isn’t attainable without accountability. In order to achieve this, you have to ensure you are hearing the customer’s voice and operating on behalf of their needs.
In part 1 of this two-part podcast episode, Sarah speaks about her new leadership role, being resilient in the face of adversity, and the stories behind her mantra “you’re too good not to be better.”
7:20 – 7:40 “What I find to be really important in this role is the significant amount of accountability that is required when you are in charge of driving revenue. And it’s accountability that I deeply feel to my team, that I feel to our company, that I feel to our customers, that I feel to our shareholders.”
Carrying the responsibility of revenue growth and customer happiness is uniquely weighted to media sales, and this is something that is never lost on Sarah.
Sarah attributes a lot of her success in media sales to being a lifelong learner. With the industry continuously evolving and jobs expanding or changing at a rapid rate, it is essential that you are able to evolve with them. Sarah believes that being open to constantly learning can help you pivot when needed and grow in your role.
11:54 – 12:02 “If you choose a job based on what you are going to learn and the value system that you are connected to, it is never going to be a bad choice.”
Learn from your mistakes. Although taking in new information is important, learning from past failures or successes can also help propel you forward in your career. Be willing to take risks and believe in your ability to improve.
Don’t let fear of failure be a detractor from continuing to move forward.
